What do you need to use the WiFi service?
All you need for internet access at a Telecom Wireless Hotspot is a WiFi enabled device and a Prepaid WiFi card.

• A WiFi enabled device
To use a hotspot, your computer must be configured with a WiFi certified radio, such as an external WLAN (wireless local area network) card or an integrated wireless LAN capability as available on many laptops. WiFi capability is now a standard feature on most new laptops being sold.
A Prepaid WiFi Card
Prepaid WiFi cards are available at many convenient locations on Rarotonga including a number of hotels and retail stores. They can also be purchased at the Telepost shop in downtown Avarua or 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the Telecom Centre nearby.

Which Prepaid WiFi Card is right for you?
Cards are available in four denominations based on the volume of data that you want to transfer. The table below will help you decide which card is right for you.

Card Type   Price          Ideal For
50MB            $15.00        Checking e-mails and occasional internet surfers
150MB           $36.00        More frequent internet users
250MB           $50.00        Frequent internet users that may require a number of larger transfers
400MB           $64.00        Heavy internet users that may require frequent transfers

All Prepaid WiFi card values will expire after 30 days from the time of activation. Any remaining volume left on the card at this point is non-refundable.

What do you do to connect?

1. Scratch off the panel on your card to reveal the access code.
2. Launch your internet explorer and go to http://wifi.oyster.net.ck to access the login page.
3. Enter your 16 digit number and access code.
4. Follow the simple on-screen instructions.

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell how much data I have left on my Prepaid card?
To view your account usage statistics login to http://wifi.oyster.net.ck and select “My Usage Statistics”.

Why am I prompted to change my access code?
This is so no other user can gain access to your internet session. You should type in a new code that’s at least six characters long and made up of both numbers and letters.

I think there’s a problem with coverage at a Wireless Hotspot. What should I do?
The connection between your device and the internet is made via a radio signal, which can be affected by a number of external factors. Telecom has made every effort to ensure that you experience the best quality service it can offer, however if you are having problems please call us on 123 and let us know, so we can investigate the situation.

How secure is the service?
Although rigorous testing has been done Telecom’s wireless hotspot service can’t offer guaranteed protection against viruses, the interception or misuse of your data or other harmful occurrences. We strongly recommend you protect your computing device through methods such as a firewall and anti-virus software.
